When working around racehorses, safety precautions include moving slowly, avoiding loud noises and being very aware of how flighty and skittish racehorses can be. with information from a former professional jockey in this free video on equestrian life.
Something about working with racehorses, even if you've been around horses your whole life, but you maybe have not been around racehorses is that you have to take extra precaution. Sudden moves, a paper bag blowing across the shed row, dropping a bucket, throwing a brush across the room, these are things that you just, being around racehorses, that you have to take extra special care. So let's say for example you've been around horses your whole life and they're pretty much bomb proof, desensitized, well you go into a stable area with racehorses, you have to move a little more slowly, you have to take extra precautions, you have to be more patient, you don't do things that you normally can get away with in a regular barn setting. So be prepared for that. Racehorses are, they're very light on their feet, they're fit, they're feeling good, they're the best fed nutritious horses you'll ever see but that also makes them very skittish and very flighty. So you have to take that extra little special time when working around racehorses and don't take too much for granted. So those are some safety recommendations I'm mentioning to you if you decide you want to work with racehorses.
