About This Video

A proper warn-up combined with the active stretches shown will aid the rider in preventing injury while increasing your overall fitness level. Riding alone is not enough to create holistic fitness. Incorporating exercise into your regular routine, your equestrian experience will become more pleasurable. As with any exercise program do not engage in any activity when pain is present. Consult your health professional if these is any question on any exercise shown. This program is for informational purposes only. Work out at your own risk safely and always listen to your body.

 

Steven's Seven Steps to Equestrian Success Series.

 

THE WARM UP

We will begin the warm up with range of motion and dynamic flexibility series:

  1. NECK - Make full circles with the neck, up and down and back and forth. Take the hands behind the head and pull down, gently resisting back and forth. Hands at the front of the head, back and forth. To the side of the head, then switch sides.
  2. ARMS - swing arms in full circles back and forth, full circles to the front and full circles to the back. Take your arm across the body and pull behind the head, working the triceps. Switch arms across the body and then behind the head.
  3. WRISTS - pull down with the opposite hand, pulling back and pulling from the opposite direction coming forward toward your. Switch hands pull down. Rotate the wrist in circles one direction and then the other directions.
  4. TORSO - Do twists rotating on the opposite foot twisting side to side and then do double twists two directions right and left.
  5. HIPS - Hands on the hips small circles turning to bigger circles rotation and then in the opposite directions. Hands on the hips now full body twists, go down and around, go back and forth and switch directions.
  6. KNEES - hands on knees circle left and then circle right.
  7. ANKLES - Calf raises. Ball of the foot on the ground circle to the right circle to the left. Back and forth.
