About This Video

A dressage bridle that an advanced rider would use has a snaffle with a curved bit, and these bits allow riders to implement more finesse into their craft. Find out why a rider needs to be able to ride in a double bridle before using a bradoon snaffle with helpful advice in this video on horse training and dressage.

This is called the bradoon snaffle, which is very similar to what I just showed you, added in with the curve bit. And the curve bit, these two bits are used with the higher level movements, so it allows the horse, or allows the rider to actually have a little bit more of a finessing feel, and of course, this definitely needs to be ridden by a rider who knows how to ride in a double bridle, because it's very important because it is a sharper bit. So the, what this does, is the curve bit allows the horses tongue to move a little bit more, it allows a little bit more of a finer aid given, it's a sharper bit, and it acts the same as a snaffle in the sense that your length of the bridle here definitely, of the bit, sorry, the severity is the same. So if you have a longer curve bit, then it's also more severe, whether, or if you have a shorter one, it is less severe. Same as the thickness, and also the port of the bridle here, the higher it is, the more it allows the tongue to move around. So in comparison, we have another double bridle, which you can see the port here, in the center of the curve bit, is quite different compared to this double bridle. So this one acts a little bit milder, where as this one is a little bit more severe, and again, it just depends on each horse, what you want to do, you want to experiment a little bit, but it's important to have very good fundamental understanding of how to ride, and you know, quite hands, because you definitely, you know, the horses are sensitive with these bits in their mouths, and you have to know how to use the double bridle, for sure. And the curve chain also works as a leverage for the curve bit, so the tighter you put your curve chain, the more severe the curve bit will be, as well.
