Hi I'm Mary Ann Simonds. I'm an applied Behavior Equine Ecologist. I live in Vancouver, Washington on my ranch with my three horses and family. I'm here to talk to you today about what is enchanted riding. Enchanted riding evolved out of years of growing up with horses. I started out riding when I was five years old and I loved horses. And for many years as I grew up and worked with trainers and did jumpers, I realized that not everybody loved horses and that horses were starting to become commodities. There were, horses were being put in a place of business and if they were expensive or cheap they were judged as opposed to how we interacted with them. So I went off to school and studied wild horses and have had a professional practice as an applied behavioral ecologist for horses for many years. And taking the programs of working with my students to a different level. Not just how to sit on a horse or how to relate but really understanding the whole world of horses. So enchanted riding is an extension of the enlightened horsemanship program which takes it into a new realm. It's a place where you can feel what's it like to ride bareback with your eyes closed and have music playing and know that you are completely connected to your horse. What's it like to have a whole group of horses playing together and scripting and dancing. Enchanted horsemanship is not just how to ride well and how to relate well but it is taking it to the next level. To the level of emotion, to relationships, to our awareness, our consciousness with horses. So that when we are on our horse and we are doing dressage or we are jumping or even going out for a trail ride, we have a complete level of comfort and a new awareness in relationship with our horse that's at an enchanted level.
