Our topic is how to play with my horse. I have grown up and have always said that playing with my horse is also similar to gaining the respect as well as giving the respect to my horse. To create the best animal that I'm going to appreciate and feel good about being around. I don't spoil my horses so therefore playing with them might not be the same as for someone else where we include treats and or trying to create tricks. I just like to spend time with them, simply asking them to be a good partner where we can lead them without much trouble. Teach them to stop. You can even do so many things as asking them to stop and kind of stand as you back away from him. Whoa! Reinforcing, you can use your voice as whoa. Make him stop and stand and continued to me this would be considered playing with him. What can that lead to? Well it can lead to a number of really fun accomplishments. In my world asking him to back up, trying to be very obedient to my needs, can lead to the sport of showmanship at halter. A competitive endeavor where you need all these same skills. So If I were interested in spending time in playing with my horse, I would be asking him to do some of those skills that do lead to a good showmanship horse. Asking him to turn quietly away from me, walking away and we could even incorporate things like trotting next to me. Haven't not worked with this horse that much, he might readily pick up on that part or it might take sometime. But I feel that a day spent with him in this way is a very productive way and I would consider it playing with him.
