During a lunge lesson, a rider should always wear a helmet, gloves, comfortable breeches and a pair of boots or heeled shoes. Take proper safety and comfort precautions when horse riding with riding information from an internationally-certified horse trainer and instructor in this video on horse lunging.
Hello my name is Rebekah Larimer, and I am an internationally certified horse trainer and instructor, and today I am going to inform you what a rider should wear while having a lunge lesson or everyday riding. Today I have my assistant Rosemary who is also one of my students, and I always advise one of my students to wear a helmet. It is very important. When I was twelve I was thrown off of a horse, hit my head, and lost two weeks of memory, and I have been riding since I was three. So it doesn't matter how good you are. Yea I do highly recommend wearing a helmet. Also what Rosemary has is gloves. They are optional, but I do highly recommend them just to prevent chafing, blisters, and ugly calluses. Also what I recommend are a good pair of comfortable pants. I do recommend breeches. Jeans are very uncomfortable, and they have some seams in them that can have some chafing in uncomfortable places. So I do recommend the breeches. Also I highly recommend a pair of boots or a shoe with a heel to prevent your foot sliding through the stirrup. So all of these items I do highly recommend while you are riding your horse or during a lunge lesson.
