The rider can do a few stretching exercises before a lunge lesson, which can include twisting the upper body with arms straight out, crossing opposite hand to opposite foot in a downward stretch or leaning completely back as far as possible. Stretch out the back and abdomen before riding exercises with riding information from an internationally-certified horse trainer and instructor in this video on horse lunging.
Hello my name is Rebekah Larimer, I am an internationally certified horse trainer and instructor, and today I am going to show you a few exercises for the rider. You can do these exercises while doing a lunge lesson. They are great for those, and also while preparing during your warm up when you first get on to be able to stretch your muscles to prepare for your ride. Assisting me today is Rosemary and John, and so the first exercise is the airplane. So if you can put your arms out to your side, and your arms should be level all the way across. And if you can turn to the inside, and so this stretches the lower back. And then turn to the outside, good, and then go ahead and straighten, and bring your arms down. And then the next exercise is to be able to take your right hand, and move it to your left foot, and stretch down. And then straighten. And then the next is your left hand to your right foot, and touch it, and then straighten. Our next exercise is to be able to stretch the lower back, and it's just to give their horse a nice big hug, which they love. And then go ahead and straighten, and the next one is to stretch your abdominal muscles. So go ahead and sit back as far as you can. And for those who are, who A have a very good horse, and B can really, really stretch you can stretch down all the way to where your head touches your horses bottom. And there are a few exercises for your lunge lesson, and your warm up.
