Seat building exercises are designed to strengthen the rider's core and grounding on the horse, and they include bicycle movements, leg lifts and arm stretches. Maintain balance and posture when riding a horse with riding information from an internationally-certified horse trainer and instructor in this video on horse lunging.
Hello my name is Rebeka Larimer, I am an internationally certified horse trainer and instructor, and today I am going to show you some seat building exercises. Today I have Rosemary as my assistant, and our first seat building exercise is the bicycle. This helps build your muscles, and also definitely emphasizes on keeping that nice deep seat to be able to especially do a sitting trot. So if you can please show us the bicycle for us, and you won't need to take your feet out of the irons in order to do this. This is especially, go ahead and relax, these exercises definitely help during a lunge lesson, and also during your warm up phase. Our next exercise is the leg lifts. So go ahead and do those, a couple of those. And this helps build your outer thighs, and also don't be surprised if there is a little bit of discomfort the first few times that you do them on your outside sockets. Just do the best that you can, and then slowly build up to there. It should never truly hurt. Just that good old muscle strain in the beginning. And the next exercise is the backstroke. So Rosemary is going to place both arms above her head, and then take her right arm behind and come up, have it be straight again, and then take her left arm, and come up behind. And go ahead and repeat that. And she is going to do this in rhythm with the horse whether she is walked, trotting, or cantering. And so these are a few exercises to help build a more confident seat. And also more mental fitness for you the rider to know that you can ride your horse no matter what is happening underneath.
