Being able to lengthen or shorten a trot along a straight stretch of the lunge exercise is important to learn for many riding purposes. Discover the finer points of communicating with a horse with riding information from an internationally-certified horse trainer and instructor in this video on horse lunging.
Hello, my name is Rebekah Larimer and I am an internationally certified horse trainer and instructor and today I'm going to show you how you can practice lengthening the trot on the lunge line on a straight stretch. So I have Rosemary, as the rider, my assistant, and Maria, the ground assistant as the lunger. Right now, you're, they are lunging on a circle and then after this next circle they're going to go along a straight stretch, Maria's going to follow with John to allow him to go straight along the long wall. And then at the end of the straight stretch, they are going to go back into a circle and continue lunging again. But notice how Rosemary is able to practice sitting a larger trot and there's always those hookups for the transition sometimes, but she's able to practice sitting a longer stride in that trot transition for a lunge lesson. And this is how you're able to help your seat and get used to an independent seat while doing those lengthened strides.
