I am Cyrus Confectioner, secretary of the Calgary Polo Club, one of the oldest polo clubs in the world still existing today. I am now going to give you a little brief on the rules of the game. Obviously in a game like this where there is so much physical contact certain rules have been formulated. The polo player must have a clear understanding of the rules of the game. This is most important. A polo player must also take a test of rules to be able to participate, and get his handicap evaluated. A polo player must verbally answer questions on specific situations applicable to their level of ability. A player has advance riding skills, and is capable of playing in a safe manner under control most of the time. This is very important, because it can also become a very physical sport, which leads to a lot of injuries sometimes even fatal. A polo player must also be able to demonstrate proper use, coordination of his hands, legs, and at a cantor or gallop must be able to ride in a specific pattern. A player must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all time, and must have a moderate understanding and minimal experience in planning, and implementation of various game strategies including the ability to position teammates correctly, schedule ponies, and select players in an effective manner. The rules of the game as you will see being played on this field are quite simple. The rules are basically made to insure that the rider and the horse stay protected. A very peculiar rules, which I don't think many people know about is that no left handed players are allowed. All players have to be right handed. This is a rule which has got just to do with the safety aspect of the game. Another very important rule is that the ball when it is hit that line you cannot infringe upon that. In the sense that both horses the one trying for the ball must follow that line of direction. There are other basic rules while a horse is in full gallop another player upon his horse cannot come across him directly. These are the basic rules that are governing the sport. Thank you.
