Hi I'm Judy Smith, I am a trail riding enthusiast, been trail riding for many years, and I am here to talk to you about the many different kinds of trail riding events. There is endurance riding, that is for the hearty ones that want to ride twenty-five, thirty, thirty-five, forty, fifty miles. To me it is a lot of work, but so many people enjoy it, the competitiveness of it. There is CMO, Competitive Mounted Orienteering, in which you have to be able to read a compass, and you go out and it is a race against time, plus you go out and find different objects that are hidden in the woods. It is great competition. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner of if you've been at it many times, because it is so much fun. There are poker rides, there are fun rides. Poker rides are not usually held on federal land, because we can't gamble on federal land. With poker rides you get cards out along the trail, you and it is usually like a four-hour, two-hour to four-hour trail. And then when you bring your cards back in they put your hands together, and you are competing for prizes that way. And the fun rides is about the same thing. You just buy raffle tickets for prizes. You go out on a two to four hour ride, have your lunch. They usually have lunch for you when you get back. There are many trail riding events, and the best place to find out where to go are visit your local feed stores, watch in the papers, because they usually advertise. The hardware store sometimes they put up posters, but your best bet is your local feed stores, and then watch your publications. Have a great time.
