Hi I'm Tim Wigren, owner and operator here at Command Performance. I am here to talk to you about some interesting little facts you may not know which do concern Arabians throughout history, such as people don't realize George Washington rode an Arabian. Napoleon Bonaparte rode Arabians. Many of our leaders have used them, Teddy Roosevelt all the way up to Ronald Reagan. They were his breed of choice. People also don't realize that there is little bits of history such as right now the Arabians are being used in Afghanistan and in the Iraq war. The military has started back a remount program since 2001 and Arabians have been the focus because they are the natural desert war horse, capable of carrying heavy equipment, heavy loads over long periods of time under rough terrain and rough conditions. You may not also know this but during the 1960's when the Soviet Union built the famous Aswan Dam in Egypt their only payment was one Arabian stallion whose name aptly enough was Aswan who became the most influential breeding stallion in the Soviet Union up until his death in the 1980's. Also there are some other medical histories that people do not realize as Arabians do possess many medical benefits for humans were developed through the use of Arabian horses, most commonly is medicine's advance in HIV and SCID in horses, very similar diseases only possess this disease only carried in Arabians and the medicines treated for SCID are the medicines used for HIV. So you can see that the Arabian horse has played a major role in history, military and in medical history.
