Hi I'm Tori Johnson with The Leading Rein and today we're going to talk about choosing an English girth and different types of English girths. This would be your standard English girth. It's got dual ends and one end having elastic. You always want elastic on one end to get a more snug fit on your horse without being too cumbersome and uncomfortable for him. So this is a very nice split end girth on both sides, very easy to adjust. You want to make sure you get the proper size for your horse when choosing a girth because you don't want it to be too big or too small. So the best way is on your, the billets of your saddle is to measure half way up on both sides with a measuring tape and then you can come in and we can help you find the proper one for you. Another type of girth would be this big girth here. It's called a belly guard girth and it's mostly used for jumping horses that jump very big and they don't want them to hit their belly with their foot. So this would protect their stomach underneath like that from over jumping or hitting a jump. The last type of girth would be a dressage girth and as you can tell it is much shorter than a regular girth. That is because dressage saddles have long billets so you don't need as long as a girth as you would with a regular saddle and again you would measure it the same way by measuring half way up on each side with your tape measurer and then bringing it in and we could find out which set works best. Again it would have elastic on one end just to make it more comfortable and a more secure fit on your horse.
