About This Video

A d-ring bit has two d-shaped rings on each side for more comfort, and the bit is often made from copper for better acceptance from the horse. See what a d-ring bit looks like with help from the owner of an English tack store in this video on horse supplies.

Hi I am Tori Johnson with The Leading Rein, and today we are going to talk a little bit about the different types of bits. Another type of bit is a D ring. It is a very nice bit, the rings are shaped like Ds. This in particular bit is what is called a French link. It has a nice jelly bean looking link in the middle. A lot of horses like that, it is something to play with in their mouth. It is also made of copper for better acceptance. You want to make sure when you are putting a bit in the horses mouth that the grooves on this side are what goes up. As you can see the bit folds very nicely when it is put in the mouth properly. If you were to put it in backwards it hinges together, and it does not come all the way together like it would if you put it in properly. And you would not be able to control your horse, and he would not be very happy with you at all. So you want to just make sure the curves are what actually goes up in your horses mouth, and that way it can bend all the way together, and that just fits better in between his teeth and his tongue.
