A horse's brushing boots should fit from high up on the leg down to the hoof for optimum protection. Learn to wrap a horse's leg in a brushing boot with help from the owner of an English tack store in this video on horse supplies.
Hi I am Tori Johnson with The Leading Rein, and I am going to show you how to properly fit a brushing or a work boot. A lot of people use these to support the horse's tendons and ligaments in their legs. And two it keeps them from if brushing with their other leg, and it just protects their leg overall. When fitting a boot you want to make sure it comes up high enough there, and that it comes down low enough down there so you are protecting all the parts of the horses leg. Also with the boot you want to make sure that the straps go back towards the tail, and that they never face forward. That way you have your boot on it is protecting all of your horse, and supporting them all at the same time. Another type of boot that a lot of people often use is called an open front boot. As you can see with this one it is actually open in the front so it doesn't go all the way around. It still would fit the same. You would put it on, make sure that it is low enough down there, and that it comes up high enough on the horses leg. And you also want to make sure that you get these boots pretty tight, and don't ever want them slipping or falling while you are riding your horse. So you get the Velcro on. The main difference is this supports the back tendons and ligaments on the horse, and leaves this part open. A little bit more ventilation, and just for horses that might not be jumping big cross country fences. More for horses jumping in an arena, and things like that is why you would choose this boot over the previous boot that we just saw.
