English bridles are available in a variety of styles, and some are equipped with padded nosebands, flash nosebands and crank nosebands. Discover the many styles of horse bridles with help from the owner of an English tack store in this video on horse supplies.
Hi! I'm Tori Johnson with The Leading Rein and today we're going to talk a little bit about how to pick out an English bridle. There's several different styles and you really need to pick out what's best for your horse. The most basic style of an English bridle would look like this. It's a regular cavesson which is the part that goes over the horse's nose, or you can also call it a noseband. And it's padded on the inside for comfort of the horse. There's also different types like this one that has a flash noseband. The flash noseband is this extra piece of leather at the bottom down here, and what that does is it's for a horse that likes to open his mouth while you're riding. And it just keeps his mouth closed so you don't have an opening his mouth all the time when you're trying to work. Another type of nose band would be called a crank noseband. Again, it's also padded so it's very comfortable. But you can just get this a little bit tighter for a horse that needs a snugger fit on his bridle. And again, it has the flash to help keep his mouth closed.
