Hi, I'm Tori Johnson with The Leading Rein and I'm just going to talk a little bit about the purposes and uses for breastplates and martingales. This is right here would be a regular breastplate. What you would do is you would put this over your horse's neck and you would attach these to the D on your saddle and then this would go through the girth; so it all stays in place and it keeps your saddle from slipping forward or back. There's also an attachment on this one and it's called a standing martingale attachment and you would hook that to your nose band on your bridle and it would keep your horse from being able throw his head high in the air. Another type is called a running martingale. Now this just slides over your horse's neck and again, connects at the girth to help stay in place. These have rings on them and you would run your rein through each ring and this helps for steering and to have a little bit more control over your horse for when you are going cross country or jumping large fences.
