A curry comb has teeth on one end and a handle on the other, and it is used to loosen up dirt and hair on a horse. Clean a horse of loose hair and dirt with help from a horse riding teacher in this free video on curry combs.
This is Maggie Connolly with Hawthorne Stables and we're going to go through how to use a curry comb. This is a curry comb. You notice the teeth on the outside, on the bottom side of it. On the other side it has a simple handle. You can go ahead and slip your hand in there and then it fits firmly in the palm of your hand and let me go ahead and demonstrate how we use a curry comb. The idea behind a curry comb is to help loosen up the dirt and loosen up the hair. If you notice a horse's hair moves down this way. With a curry comb you can place the curry comb on the hair and begin in a counterclockwise direction, actually coming down the hair and then ruffling up the hair and you can see how it's bringing up any loose hairs and any dirt. We begin at the top of the horse and I end up going through the whole entire horse and it will just create bringing up all the dirt and hair and that's basically how you use a curry comb.
