A horse's hard brush should be used after a curry comb in order to get rid of the hairs and dirt that have been loosened by the comb. Discover why a hard brush shouldn't be used below a horse's knee with help from a horse riding teacher in this free video on horse grooming.
This is Maggie Connolly with Hawthorne Stables, and we are going to go over how to use a hard brush. After you have curried your horse, and you have all the loose hair, and loose dirt. What I like to do is take a hard brush starting out here, and simply stroke down, and put all the hairs that you have ruffled up with a curry comb, and line them back up. Running the horse down through the neck, through the shoulders, and finishing out throughout the complete horse. With a curry comb, and with a hard brush you really don't want a hard brush or curry a horse below this part of the knee. We will go over that with a medium brush, and the soft brush. But then just go down with the hairs there, and that is how you use the hard brush. This is Maggie Connolly with Hawthorne Stables, and that is how you use a hard brush.
