This is Maggie Connolly with Hawthorne Stables, I am going to go over how to brush a mane and tail. Actually you can see I use a comb. I prefer a comb with wide teeth, because it helps to when you are going down the tail to get through the snarls and the snags, and helps relieve knots without actually pulling the hair from the tail. You can use a brush this is just my preferred method, and my preferred tool. I want to show you how I do it. How I usually start with a tail is, because you don't know how many knots or snarls are going to be in throughout it I try to start at the end first, and that way you can go through and get through any kind of snarls or knots first, and then work my way up the tail. And then as you go through, and develop that then you can actually come through and start, and go all the way down through the tail. So you can see there's snarls, and knots there so you want to make sure that you try and salvage as much of the tail as you can. You really don't want to go pulling the hairs out.
