Hi, my name is Maryjo Turnbull and I'm here at Silver Buckle Ranch in Brushberry, Washington. I'm going to talk to you today about resources that are available for youth riders and that are just starting to get into horses. One of the most obvious items that you could always get is books and magazines and you can get a lot of free resources at your local feed stores when it comes to magazines and fliers of events and things that are going on around in your local area. The American Quarter Horse Association puts out great, great publications, a monthly magazine, as well as, they have a Junior Master Horsemanship program. So you can sign up for that and have a couple manuals and then a newsletter that's sent out to you periodically. The Certified Horsemanship Association also has a great manual, they call it their Composite Manual which is four different levels of horsemanship that teaches you everything from this a horse to jumping and trail riding. The American Youth Horse Council is another great organization where you can go and sign up for different magazines and periodicals sent out to you, as well as, they have a couple really, really good handbooks and manuals that you can purchase from them. All these organizations are about education and getting the youth involved in horsemanship activities in their local area and nationally. You can research any of these on-line, as well as, again at your local feed stores and things like that they'll have publications for you to pick up for free. So again, researching the information you'd like to know about riding before getting started is another great way to guarantee your success in horsemanship.
