When selecting a thoroughbred horse breeder, the first thing you'll want to determine is what you want your horse to do. Choose the best thoroughbred breeder for you with guidance from a horseback riding instructor in this video on horse breeds.
Hi, I'm Teri Carter of Saddlebrook Stables in Castle Hayne, North Carolina. And today I am going to talk to you about how to select a good thoroughbred breeder. The first thing you want to decide is what you would like your thoroughbred to do. If you want it to be a racehorse, then you need to make sure that it's from racing bloodlines with a sire that has been successful in the racehorse world, and a dame that has thrown some successful offspring in the racehorse world. If you would just like for your thoroughbred to do performance work, mainly they are geared towards your hunter, jumper world, then you can look around and you can try and find an ex-racehorse off the track that is no longer used for racing. Or you can try and find a breeder that breeds specifically thoroughbreds for the hunter, jumper world. Again you would want to check with the breeder and find out if his or her stallion and dame have offspring that have produced wins within the discipline that you are trying to achieve. Again, that is how you would select a good thoroughbred breeder.
