About This Video

Transitions within the gaits (extended, medium, and collected) are used to achieve collection or the rebalancing of the horse’s weight from their front end to their hind legs. However, for the transitions to work the horse must transfer the weight from their front legs to their hind legs. Many horses will do a downward transition going onto their forehands so when you ride the transitions to get their full effect you must engage their hind legs and carry weight on their hind legs.
